Brandon R. Babb, professionally known as BEATZ BY B-DON, is an award-winning composer and music producer with Trinidadian roots, born and raised in Columbus, Ohio. From an early age, his family's love for music and the arts profoundly shaped his creative journey. Supported by his grandmother, Carmen, and godmother, Nola, Brandon began piano lessons at the age of five with Roger Parish at the Parish Musical Arts Conservatory, formerly located on Long Street in Columbus. Under Parish's mentorship, Brandon mastered classical pieces like Beethoven's "Für Elise" and Mozart's "Moonlight Sonata," and later learned the basics of playing the steel pan-a skill that was made possible when Carmen gifted him his first steel pan. Carmen often listened to Brandon play piano while cooking, creating cherished moments that remain a core inspiration in his life.

By the age of twelve, Brandon's passion for musical composition flourished, inspired by the 1990s boom bap and jazz-infused styles of hip-hop. His uncles Linus and Andre also played pivotal roles in nurturing his artistry, with Linus inviting Brandon to jam sessions where he played keyboard and drums, while Linus played bass and guitar. Andre's hip-hop-based creative writings and encouragement helped Brandon gain confidence in his evolving artistry. His grandfather Vernon also contributed to this early musical foundation through trombone and record player sessions in the attic, fostering a deep appreciation for sound and rhythm.

An important milestone in Brandon's career came through Somali professional photographer and cinematographer Tariq Tarey, a fellow Columbus native. Tariq invited Brandon to create background music for the WOSU TV documentary Women, War and Resettlement: Nasro's Journey (2011). This project allowed Brandon to explore the emotional resonance of soundscapes, enhancing the documentary's themes of resilience and hope. Tariq later directed and filmed Brandon's performance for the "Back 2 Class" segment in the Re: School (2015) episode of HitRECord on TV (2014) Season Two, further solidifying Brandon's creative contributions to the Emmy-winning series.

Brandon's breakthrough as a composer came with his work on HitRECord on TV (2014), where he contributed opening title music, background scores, and additional compositions for 10 episodes. His talent extended to projects showcased at the Sundance Film Festival, such as Re: Independence - Canada (2012) and Deliver WOW Through Service (2020). His global music collaborations include the Project Power Rap Cypher (2020), where he composed original music and performed as a rap artist.

In addition to his work in film and television, Brandon is a pioneer in sound healing and therapeutic music. Specializing in 432 Hz compositions and binaural beats, his work promotes mindfulness and relaxation. Throughout his career, Brandon has drawn inspiration from his family, friends, mentors, and the churches that opened their doors for him to practice piano during quiet moments.
