Biography

Cati has raised finance for both fiction and documentary feature films and has produced award-winning films. Career highlights includes filming 100 interviews for her Memory Box initiative (2003) as a personal means of support to HIV positive clients at the largest Soweto hospital before ARVs; an anti-nuclear documentary, Uranium Road (2009), which helped change nuclear policy in SA; raising slate feature film funding from the National Film and Video Foundation in 2011, producing season 12 of Soul City drama series, co-creating the ground-breaking Sediba script development programme under the wing of the National Film and Video Foundation (South Africa), producing Gog' Helen (2012), Mrs Right Guy (2016), Love By Chance (2017), The Letter Reader (2018),The Tokoloshe (2018), Pou (2021), The Fragile King (2022) and Headspace (2022). She is co-founder of The Ergo Company producing fiction and non-fiction feature films, including animation. Her commitment to satisfying and surprising target audiences helps her retro-engineer how to create inspiring yet budget-savvy content. Her business acumen embraces both the operational and strategic in the production pipeline.

She takes pride in being hands-on to ensure the creative vision is realised with authenticity and excellence. She is people-centred in her work, while delivering commercially and creatively successful content that is always brave. Her multi-faceted skills and experience support the work of the best in African crew and cast, and making content that is culturally unique, but globally resonant. Celebrating and protecting cultural diversity is a skill honed working in a young democracy and a vibrant industry - but a skill with global resonance.

Her content is multi-award winning, selected for markets at Series Mania and Cannes as well as global festivals. She is an alumnus of the Erich Pommer Institute, founder of a South African gender-diverse collective of filmmakers; co-creator of the ground-breaking script programme, Sediba; juror of the SA film and television awards; juror of the National Film and Video Foundation, and recent co-chair of the SA Screen Federation and the Writers Guild of South Africa. She has produced 9 feature films and has worked on more than 600 hours of television content with Kings of Joburg Series 2 on Netflix her latest production.
