Ruth Reitan is a screenwriter, producer, author, educator, and festival-runner living and working in Minnesota and Mexico.
Her screenplays and short films have been programmed in over 30 festivals and competitions around the world and have won several awards, including (for writing) at the Oaxaca Film Festival in Mexico, Beverly Hills International FF, Manhattan Short FF Screenplay Competition, Mid-Atlantic Black FF, Wood's Hole FF on Cape Cod, the L.A. Neo Noir Novel, Film, & Script Festival, and International Talentscout & WriteMovies Writing Contest; and (for films) the BLOW-UP Chicago International Arthouse Festival, Barcelona Erotic&Bizarre FF, Underground Transterritorial FF in Buenos Aires, Key West Film Festival, Great Lakes International Script Competition, and the University Film and Video Association-Minneapolis College of Art & Design Exhibition.
Reitan has lectured in screenwriting and international cinema at the University of Miami in Florida and FilmNorth in Minneapolis/St.Paul, and led the Business & Economics program at Oak Hill Christian College. She earned an MFA in Motion Pictures and MA in International Studies from the University of Miami, a PhD In International Relations from American University's School of International Service in Washington, DC, and a BA in Business and Spanish from Concordia College in Moorhead, MN.
Other film-related experience includes videographer and film editor with Wine Spectator and Cigar Aficionado magazines in Manhattan; founder, director, and film curator of the Bogart Film Noir Shorts Competition in affiliation with the Humphrey Bogart Film Festival in Key Largo; shorts and Florida features curator with the Key West Film Festival; food & film series presenter at the Ocean Reef Club in Key Largo; and PR & development manager at the Minneapolis-St Paul International Film Festival.
