Both he and his brother Sean were born on the 23 of their respective birth months, May 23, 1986 for Kevin and September 23, 1987 for Sean, exactly sixteen months apart.

Half-nephew of Redmond O'Neal, who is mother Tatum's MUCH younger half-brother, the son of his grandfather Ryan O'Neal and Ryan's long term (1979-1997) significant other (they never married), Farrah Fawcett, who died of cancer in 2009. Redmond was born January 30, 1985, which means (half) nephew Kevin is only one year and four months younger.

Half-nephew of Patrick O'Neal, who is mother Tatum's younger half-brother, the son of his grandfather Ryan O'Neal and second wife Leigh Taylor-Young. Patrick is actually the namesake of Ryan, who's birth name is Charles Samuel Eldridge Patrick Ryan O'Neal III, making Uncle Patrick's birth name Charles Samuel Eldridge Patrick Ryan O'Neal IV. Patrick has fourteen acting credits (the last being in 2007), and was one of the singers performing "(I Wanna Be an) Oscar Winner" during The 61st Annual Academy Awards (1989) (the same Oscar telecast with the infamous Rob Lowe and "Snow White" opening), but is now (as of 2020) a long-time sportscaster with Fox Sports.

Maternal grandson of Ryan O'Neal and Joanna Moore. Grandfather Ryan was forty-five years old, and grandmother Joanna was fifty-one years old.

Kevin had a special connection with his maternal grandmother Joanna Moore. who died of lung cancer November 22, 1997. Kevin had Joanna's face tattooed on his upper arm, out of a desire that he "will never forget the influence she's had on his life." He also refers to her as his "guardian angel," and he dedicated his roman à clef novel, "Our Town" (2015) to her, since she inspired the main character Dorothy, which was also Joanna's birth name.
