- Vilis Lacis was born on May 12, 1904 in village Rinuzhi, Riga Uyezd, Governorate of Livonia, Russian Empire [now Riga, Latvia]. Vilis was a writer, known for The Fisherman's Son (1939), Na poroge buri (1960) and The Fisherman's Son (1957). Vilis died on February 6, 1966 in Riga, Latvian SSR, USSR [now Latvia].
