Biography

Shaun Chen is a composer whose work moves fluidly between tradition and the contemporary, fusing lush orchestral writing with idiosyncratic sonic ideas shaped by a love of world-building and storytelling. His music can be heard across major film, television, and game projects including Call of Duty: Black Ops 6 & 7 (Activision), IT: Welcome to Derry (HBO), I Know What You Did Last Summer (Sony), Vikings: Valhalla (Netflix), and Abominable and the Invisible City (DreamWorks Animation).

Shaun writes music to create emotional connection - to heighten tension, vulnerability, and awe in ways that stay with the audience long after a scene ends. He’s always chasing that feeling of being completely absorbed in the story, and he brings that same sensitivity and immersion to every score he creates.

Alongside his classical training, Shaun spent several years performing as a keyboardist and electric violinist in a rock-fusion band in Malaysia. That experience continues to shape his approach to rhythm, texture, and genre-blending.

Outside his work in visual and interactive media, Shaun has collaborated with the alternative rock band OK Go and frontman Damian Kulash on symphonic and cross-genre projects. As a violinist, he has performed alongside artists including Jacob Collier, John Legend, Justin Timberlake, and bbno$.

Born and raised in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, Shaun trained in classical music before studying composition and film scoring at Berklee College of Music. Now based in Los Angeles, he continues to collaborate with filmmakers and fellow composers across film, television, and interactive media.
