Biography

Richard Kattah

Mini bio

  • Richard Kattah, is a British Born Ghanaian filmmaker with a creative mind and passion looking to imprint his mark onto the Uk and African film industry. A visual arts student whom completed Secondary school in his native Ghana, he always had the ambition to becoming a filmmaker but never had the opportunity nor resources to pursue this dream. His creative visions meant when watching a film he would consistently question the clips/films and their anti-climatic endings. Visually he would imagine alternative outcomes and endings for the popular films that he would watch.

What began as a hobby, capturing family events on his mobile phone and editting them with the Apple IMovie application, stemmed the beginning of his directorial career. As his passion for filmmaking grew, Richard and a friend (Tai Nguyen), a media graduate, teamed up to create a short film titled "Alone" without a budget. An emotive film about a young girl who lost her mother to cancer, and raising her two younger siblings all alone.

Although visually a low budget, this short film touched the mass and received recognition for the execution of the story. This increased his hunger to create more films to capture and evoke people's emotions.

Richard's best teacher as he grew as a filmmaker was YouTube, he learnt how to edit and grade footage using this platform. Initially, he joined a small production company as a runner, thereafter joining them as a creator. This is where he built his confidence as a Director, Editor and Filmmaker. Still collaborating with SnowPix, Richard decided to start his own production company called "Kattah Films Production", later changing the name to "Little Drops Production". The inspiration behind the name 'Little Drops Production' was from his late grandmother who owned a shop in Ghana with the name.

Richard has also been a part of a very popular Online Series titled 'Spin' as a visuals effects editor. Youtube episodes of this popular young, vibrant and emotive series set in London receives around 145,000 plus views per episodes, making it a hit on YouTube.

In 2014, Richard wanted to make a change in the UK independent film industry by creating something out of the ordinary. The birth of his latest short film "Untamed" inspired by "Warrior, Fight Club and Never Back Down" which featured a pro MMA fighter Linton Vassell and actor Kingsley Amadi. Richard believed the release of this film would create a great deal of buzz, as it was very different from anything released in the UK. "Untamed" was shot in 5 days continuously, a fun yet challenging time for young filmmakers on set.

The short film "Untamed" has premiered at PictureHouse Stratford East London, Cineworld at The O2 Arena North Greenwich, and it was also screened at the BoxPark in Shoreditch. The feedback for the film has had a great reception from viewers and the media. Richard has had interest from distribution companies, and has built a partnership with a post-production company by the name of Mzuka Studio. Little Drops Production has a lot more to offer in the near future.

Richard Kattah has plans to head to Ghana very soon, to film a series and a feature film.
