  • Born on 28 August 1995 in Ruhpolding, Germany, Wellinger is a professional ski jumper. His debut in FIS Ski Jumping World Cup occurred in 2012 in Lillehammer. The event was very successful for him as he led in the competition. Sadly during the second round he ended up on 5th position. As a member of the German, Wellinger won the team large hill event in Kuusamo in 2012 and made 2 individual podiums in Sochi and Engelberg. During the 2013-2014 season he won the summer Grand prix FIS Ski Jumping and in Klingenthal, he was 2nd. The same thing happened in Engelberg, another 2nd position. He achieved his personal best jump of 206.5 m (677 ft) in Planica. On 16 January 2014, Wellinger made his first World Cup victory in Wisla. At the 2014 Olympics in Sochi, his first ever, he won a gold medal in the team large hill event alongside Severin Freund, Andreas Wank and Marinus Kraus. The season finished for at 9th place in the overall. The 2014-2015 season began in Klingenthal with a 3rd place. Unfortunately in Ruka, Andreas Wellinger suffered a bad fall and broke his collarbone. During the 2016 FIS Ski Flying World Championships in Bad Mitterndorf, he won a silver medal in the team event.
