Biography

Was a commodities trader at the Chicago Mercantile Exchange, of which he earned money to start his own veterinary practice.

After retiring from baseball, briefly used his civil engineering degree and worked on, helped with building the Willis Tower, formerly known as the Sears Tower, in Chicago.

Charter member and was president (1985) of the Association of Avian Veterinarians (AAV).

In 1985, Nye and two other veterinarians founded the Midwest Bird and Exotic Animal Hospital in Westchester, Illinois. It was also the first exotic-only practice in the United States.

Married Dr. Susan Brown, a partner and the inspiration for starting the all-exotic veterinary practice in Illinois.
