- Arie Deri is an Israeli politician, who served non-consecutively as member of Knesset and Government minister representing the Shas Ultra-Orthodox political party. A a founding member of Shas, he first led the party between 1990 and 1999. He was forced to leave politics in 1999 following a bribery conviction that sent him to jail. He returned to politics in 2012, leading the party ever since.
