Biography

Tom Hornbein was born on November 6, 1930. He was married to Kathryn Mikesell. He died on May 6, 2023.

He was Professor and Chairman of the Department of Anesthesiology at the University of Washington School of Medicine in Seattle, Washington from 1978 to 1993.

Received his MD in 1956 from Washington University School of Medicine and worked as an anesthesiologist.

In 2018 he was awarded the Lifetime Achievement Award by The Mountaineers, a Seattle-based mountaineering club and publisher of mountaineering books.

In 1998 he published his memoir "Everest: The West Ridge".
