- Richard graduated in 1991 with a Bachelor of Arts degree from the Western Sydney University in Australia.
- Richard has been practicing as a NAATI Certified Translator and Interpreter in the German and English languages since 1992.

- In the feature film Aryans (2018), Richard's son Kristian Mutschall played his character, Max Müller, as a young child.

- On July 28, 2015, Richard was appointed an Ambassador of the City of Aachen in Germany, which is his place of birth, by the Lord Mayor, Marcel Philipp.
- From 2011 until 2018 Richard hosted his own weekly radio program called 'Flashbacks with Richard' at Port Stephens FM 100.9 in Australia where he was given the perfect platform to share his passion for 1980's music.
- Richard was the Lead Singer and Songwriter in the Australian rock band Diplomatic Immunity from 1997 until 2003.
