    • Quotes
[press conference for A Woman's Life (2026) at the 2026 Cannes Film Festival] I would say that the title imposed itself on me and it seemed obvious. It wasn't a deliberate attempt to quote Stefan Zweig or to issue a manifesto! I thought it matched the film I was writing which is indeed the portrait of a woman; you follow her life over a year, this woman in various spheres of her life and hence the title. What was most important for me was to portray a woman who would not be accomplished just in love and maternity, rather, her work is the mainstay of her life – it's her passion. She goes overboard with her work, she does her utmost, but without giving up her love life, her erotic life, sensuality at her age - she's about 55 years old and that's really what I wanted to portray. I needed this character. I'm surrounded by quite a number of slightly older friends, women in particular, who are aged between 50 and 65 or 70 and there are several of them – some of whom are the most happy - who don't have children. I thought it would be interesting to look at this kind of profile. It's very rare in the cinema to see a fulfilled woman without any children. Woman automatically have children.
