Biography

Andrea Camacho McCracken is a first-generation Mexican-American writer, director, and producer based in Los Angeles and Arizona. Her work blends genre to reimagine underrepresented stories, often exploring themes of identity, resilience, and the complexities of the "American Dream." Andrea is passionate about challenging stereotypes and promoting inclusivity through narratives that reflect the richness and nuance of her community, both behind and in front of the camera.

Andrea was recently named by Moviemaker Magazine and the Austin Film Festival as one of the "25 Screenwriters to Watch in 2024". Her short film In Wonderland earned multiple accolades, including "Best Female Director" at the Georgia Latino International Film Festival, "Best Screenplay" at the Mexican-American Film & TV Festival, and "Best LatinX Short" at the Cleveland International Film Festival. It was also nominated for the "Narrative Student Shorts Jury Award" at the 30th Austin Film Festival.

She earned her MFA in Directing from the AFI Conservatory, where she directed four short films and was selected as an AFI Awards Audi Scholar. She was also the recipient of the Mexican-American Cultural Education Foundation Scholarship, the Irwin & Sheila Allen Endowed Scholarship, and the Dr. David M. Milch Scholarship.

Her films have screened at over 20 festivals, including AFI Fest, CIFF, Miami Film Festival, the New York Latino International Film Festival, Philadelphia Latino Arts & Film Festival, and the Chicago Children's International Film Festival.

Andrea is developing her debut narrative feature, Pueblo Viejo, a haunting Mexican folk horror rooted in her father's childhood in Sinaloa, which examines the emotional cost of inherited violence and toxic masculinity in rural Mexican communities.
