Biography

Gina Louise Catalfo was born in Maine, November 26th, 1990. Catalfo involved herself in the film industry at a young age assisting on production sets and editing various projects. She edited the trailer for the 2005 Stemwinder Studios short film "The Norman Rockwell Code," a parody of the "Da Vinci Code." This trailer was a launching point for Nelson's career and helped the film land on Entertainment Weekly's Must Watch List.

In 2006 she filmed and edited her first live event, the Quest Martial Arts Academy Black Belt Extravaganza, a 2-hour live martial arts stage show and black belt graduation. And in 2008 she directed and edited her first music video for the Boston based band, "The Dejas."

Catalfo married Derek S. Nelson in 2013, changing her name to Catalfo-Nelson. She went on to participate in many projects including acting as Director of Photography and Editor of the Stemwinder Studios short "Slam Man" which premiered at Boston Comic-Con 2014.

In March 2015 Nelson received her Bachelor of Science Degree in Digital Cinematography from Full Sail University. Nelson has education in Psychology and Digital Design, and is professionally educated in American Sign Language.

Gina Catalfo-Nelson has experience and education in many forms of visual arts, including graphic art, film production, and martial arts. She received her Black Belt Certification in 2011 and studying for 12 years. She has been an instructor of Isshin-Ryu Karate for 10 years, teaching former U.S. Marines, children and adults with disabilities, and students from ages 3 to 65+.

Nelson finished directing her first short film "Signing" which premiered in June 2015 at the TCL Chinese Theaters in Hollywood, CA. Since then, "Signing" won 4 awards of merit from the Best Shorts Competition, including Women Filmmaker. The film has also been featured at The 2015 Woods Hole Film Festival in Cape Cod, and The New Hampshire Film Festival in Portsmouth, NH.
