Kay de Villiers was born on 7 March 1928 in Klerksdorp, North West Province, South African. He is known for The Boer War (1999). He was married to Jeanne Marié Erica du Plessis and Christina Meta "Kina" Botha. He died on 5 June 2018.

Former head of the Division of Neurosurgery of the University of Cape Town.

Though he was primarily known for his skill as a surgeon, he was an expert on Anglo-Boer War and published two books about the medical aspects of the conflict.
