Biography

Davo Hardy is a film director and writer from Sydney, Australia. He is an auteur of confronting and cerebral independent films, garnering international acclaim for his topical Public Eye (2021) and his quirky, naturist-themed short, Complex (2014). In 2017, he produced A Silent Agreement (2017); the first Australian film to feature Auslan with authentic, profoundly deaf characters. Known for his coming-of-age dramas, such as his debut feature The Lives We Lead (2015), Davo continues to explore heavy subject matter with deep academic research, while independently distributing and streaming his catalogue of work through DavoHardyFilms.com

Slice-of-life films that explore a touchy subject, nudity and sexuality are usually presented in normalised, incidental ways.

Fluent in Auslan (Australian Sign Language). Most notably performed in A Silent Agreement (2017).

Studied Film Production (directing, writing and producing) at The International Film School of Sydney (IFSS), before it merged with the The Actors College of Theatre and Television (ACTT) to become The Academy of Film, Theatre and Television (AFTT), as it is now known. He was there on a full scholarship (from 2008 to 2009) and studied alongside Bryan Coelho, Ben Raymond and Danielle van Herk.

Frequently collaborates with Caroline McQuade.

Met his partner Richard Littlehales doing amateur theatre in 2015. They started a relationship in early 2016 and got engaged on March 2nd 2019, before marrying a year later, on March 20th 2020; narrowly avoiding the first wave of the Covid-19 pandemic. In their wedding notice (Sunday Telegraph, May 10th 2020); Davo was quoted as saying he "first spotted Richard across a crowded room, well barely; he is like 5-foot-nothing.".
