Biography

Malin Barr is a Swedish writer, director, and actor working between Stockholm and Los Angeles, whose work centers on female-driven stories, often blending dark humor, drama and genre elements.

Her directorial debut, SAUNA SICKNESS, premiered in competition at the 2026 Sundance Film Festival and has been selected to compete at festivals including Göteborg Film Festival and SXSW London. The film is represented by Premium Films, with distribution secured with Canal+ and a theatrical release through the 2026 Sundance Film Festival Short Film Tour.

Malin is represented in the UK by United Agents. She is currently developing several feature films, including a feature adaptation of SAUNA SICKNESS.

Alongside her directing work, she has an established career as an actor. Recent credits include the Netflix series Bad Thoughts and the upcoming feature El Tigre (2026). Her previous work includes the Honeydew, starring opposite Sawyer Spielberg, as well as The Beta Test and A Wounded Fawn. She has also appeared in Scandinavian series including the Netflix series Spotify Untold, as well as Before We Die and Top Dog.

Malin is bilingual in Swedish and English, and also speaks French.
