Kim Kalish

Biography

  • Kim Kalish is a competition-winning storyteller, writer, performer, and creator of The Funny Thing about Death which will have a full run at the Edinburgh Festival Fringe (August 5th - 27th). With over 30M views of her digital work, Kim has multiple wins at The Moth Story Slam, top accolades at the LA Storytelling Fest, and contributions to storytelling powerhouse, Soul Pancake, now called Participant. As a sketch performer and writer, Kim has performed on Conan a dozen times and has appeared in College Humor sketches. Her original work has been featured on a multitude of websites with international and domestic press including in The Huffington Post, Cheek, and Indiewire, among other publications.

Born and raised in New York, Kim first started performing in musical theater as a teenager. She would go on to tour multiple musicals including You're a Good Man, Charlie Brown, Into the Woods, and Grease. That musical theater interest lead to discovering other forms of comedy including the beloved sitcom. She would go on to become a complete TV comedy history nerd. You want to talk about The Dick Van Dyke show and how it led directly to Cheers? She's your gal. After graduating with a B.A. in theater from Dickinson College, she went on to study and perform with Upright Citizen's Brigade (UCB), having toured under their umbrella at improv festivals around the country including the Del Close Marathon and the Chicago Improv Festival, making friends with other comedy nerds along the way.

In August 2022, you can find Kim at the Edinburgh Festival Fringe. She will be bringing her solo storytelling show, The Funny Thing About Death to Greenside at Infirmary Street. Through the tragedy of losing the love of her life at just 23 years old, Kim Kalish weaves a series of interconnected stories exploring every bad, crazy, illogical, life-affirming decision she made while trying to navigate life and death at the same time.
