Kurt went to Penn Hills High School with Abby Lee Miller. He graduated in 1982.

Kurt is the ex-husband of Melissa Ziegler. He's the father of Ryan Ziegler, Tyler Ziegler, Maddie Ziegler, and Mackenzie Ziegler. Kurt's sons are from his first marriage. Prior to "Dance Moms" airing Melissa and Kurt divorced on December 7, 2010. They were married for eight years. Kurt claims that dance is the reason why they divorced.

Kurt doesn't approve of his daughters doing dance or being in Hollywood because he's afraid they'll get hurt.
