Biography

Carole Keeton Strayhorn was born on September 13, 1939 in Austin, Texas, USA. She was married to Barr McClellan, Ed Strayhorn and Curtis Rylander. She died on March 26, 2025 in Austin, Texas, USA.

Before serving as Austin's mayor from 1977 to1983, Keeton was the first woman to preside over the Austin school board. And after her city service, she was three times elected to statewide office.

Keeton was the daughter of W. Page Keeton, the legendary dean of the University of Texas law school, who held that post from 1949 until 1974.
