Biography

Dorota Zglobicka is a Polish-American, award-winning film director, intermedia artist, and screenwriter. She holds a Master of Fine Arts degree from the Academy of Fine Arts in Gdańsk, Poland, and completed additional studies at the Multimedia Department of the Academy of Fine Arts in Athens, Greece. Her work spans various genres, including documentaries, narrative, video art, and short forms, often addressing urgent social issues such as political corruption and social injustice, while exploring the psychological complexities of human behavior and the human condition.

Her directing debut, Love and Shadow, which she wrote, directed, and produced in Greece, received a prestigious award in 2010. Since 1998, her work has been featured in festivals and exhibitions across the globe, including in Poland, Germany, Greece, Italy, Spain, Israel, and the USA. Her films have also aired on Polish television; in 2008, Dorota directed and produced a remake of the first-ever Polish film, which earned an Honorary Award in the national competition and was later broadcast on the channel Kino Polska.

In 2022, Dorota’s short film and music video (docu-song), A Song for Ukraine, was an official selection at the Black Cat Award International Film Festival in La Paz, Bolivia, and the Scream It Off Screen Festival in the USA. That same year, her film Digi Dada-Bartok, created with Zbig Rybczynski, won the Best Dance Short Award at the Hong Kong Film Festival and the Best Experimental Video Award at the Europe Music Awards in Slovakia. It also secured the Best Experimental award at the Dallas Movie Awards Festival and was screened internationally.

In 2020, Dorota and Zbig Rybczynski were honored with a Telly Award for excellence in film directing. Previously, Dorota was invited to participate in the Rutger Hauer Film Factory in Rotterdam, where she collaborated with the Golden Globe-winning actor on her short film, 3.

With over 30 film and video titles to her credit, Dorota has produced and directed award-winning commercials in both Europe and the USA.

From 2010 to 2013, Dorota worked at the cutting-edge Wroclaw Audiovisual Technology Center, a film studio specializing in real-time, multi-layered image production. Conceived by Oscar-winning filmmaker Zbig Rybczynski, the center was built upon his extensive scientific research, U.S. patents, and creative vision. During her tenure, Dorota closely documented the studio’s construction process and directed and edited more than five documentary films showcasing its advanced capabilities.

With a passion for stories that explore the human condition, Dorota continues to push the boundaries of visual storytelling. Alongside Zbig Rybczynski, she co-wrote the action-thriller/crime-comedy screenplay Thee Designer, and the duo is developing several new projects
