Russell Procope was born on August 11, 1908 in New York City, New York, USA. He was an actor, known for Adventures in Jazz (1949), V.I.P.'s Boogie (1951) and NET Playhouse (1964). He died on January 21, 1981 in New York, USA.

Alto saxophonist and clarinettist with the big bands of Benny Carter (1929), Chick Webb (1929-31), Fletcher Henderson (1931-34), Tiny Bradshaw (1934-35), Teddy Hill (1936-37), the John Kirby Sextet (1938-43) and Duke Ellington (1946-74). A reliable ensemble player, rarely heard as a soloist.
