Biography

Samantha MacAdam

Biography

  • Samantha is a Toronto-based, award-winning Guyanese-Canadian writer/director.

Sam's first notable writing accomplishment was when she wrote the story for "The Nut Job 3," the third installment of the animated feature film franchise, which stars Will Arnett, Katherine Heigl, and Maya Rudolph. Her directorial comedic short debut, "Prom Night," which she also wrote, premiered at Just for Laughs and beat out 650 films to be a top 5 finalist in Kevin Hart's LOL EAT MY SHORTS Showcase. Sam was the only Canadian and solo female director finalist.

Sam is an alumna of the Women in the Director's Chair, Warner Bros. Discovery Access Canada, and the Canadian Academy Director's Initiative, and she was named by Playback as One to Watch.

She has directed many comedic projects, including Anthony Q. Farrell's "Shelved," a Juno Award campaign that stars Simu Liu, and most recently, she was nominated for a CSA for Best Direction for her MOW Romcom.

Sam's feature comedy screenplay won numerous spotlights, including the Netflix-Banff Diversity of Voices, Toronto International Film Festival's Big Pitch showcase, and The Writer's Room at PRIME TIME. Sam enjoys telling bold comedic stories with commercial appeal and is currently writing a dramatic comedy series and shooting the series' proof-of-concept in early 2025.
