A. Christine Maxfield is an American producer, on-camera presenter, travel writer and adventurer, wildlife conservationist, and photographer who was born on May 10 in San Diego, California. When Christine was young, she first caught the travel bug when she and her parents visited her older brother living in Europe, and they toured to remote locations and interacted with indigenous cultures throughout the continent. Her love for that trip, combined with her affinity for her grandfather's full collection of National Geographic magazines, made her realize at an early age that she wanted to work for National Geographic.

After graduating from high school in San Diego, Christine moved to the suburbs of Philadelphia where she attended the University of Pennsylvania to study non-fiction creative writing and photography, and at the Universidad de San Andrés in Buenos Aires, Argentina, to study Spanish. While attending Penn, Christine was a writer and photographer at the university's newspaper The Daily Pennsylvanian, and a photography assistant at the suburban newspaper the Daily Local News. Her final internship was at Philadelphia magazine where she got her first break into magazine journalism by becoming an editor upon graduation. That led to more staff editorial positions at Men's Health magazine, and Arthur Frommer's Budget Travel magazine in New York City where she was sent on assignment to report about the indigenous Huaorani people in the Ecuadorian Amazon.

Christine's best known for her yearlong round-the-world adventure in 2011, which drew attention when she lived alone with remote tribes and indigenous villagers in 12 countries on six continents. She worked with Aboriginal Australians in the Outback, Tibetan Buddhist nuns in the Himalayas, shamans in the Peruvian Amazon, Roma (gypsies) in Eastern Europe, nomadic sheepherders in the Austrian Alps, anti-poaching efforts in Guatemala, sex-trafficking issues in Cambodia, HIV/AIDS prevention in Kenya, and more. Upon returning to the States, Christine signed with a literary agent and is writing a travel memoir about her unique experiences around the world. She's also a speaker at various trade events and universities throughout the U.S. and Canada, and has been interviewed about women's solo travel for several on-camera digital series including Travel+Escape in Toronto and Yahoo! Travel in New York City.

In 2014, Christine finally got her dream of working at National Geographic Channel in Washington, D.C., as a staff research manager, and then transitioned to TV production in 2017 for National Geographic Wild and Discovery networks. Additionally in 2017-2018, she was the communications manager for the oldest African conservation organization, the African Wildlife Foundation (AWF), to support anti-poaching and wildlife conservation efforts in many locations throughout Cameroon, Kenya, Rwanda, Tanzania, Uganda, Zambia and Zimbabwe. While at AWF, Christine traveled to remote protected areas, rangers, and sniffer dog units to bring awareness to the public about the poaching crisis that's happening throughout the African continent and beyond. She also spent several months in Alaska, the Yukon, and throughout rural Canada while producing the Nat Geo Wild series Dr. Oakley: Yukon Vet.

In 2020, Christine was the story supervisor for the Disney+ series Magic of Disney's Animal Kingdom, the first ever behind-the-scenes series set at Disney World's Animal Kingdom theme park (produced by National Geographic Wild, airing in September). She's also developing her own media projects and is open to other production opportunities.

    • Quotes
I think I've had the most amazing experiences in the world! But what people don't realize is what I've put my body through, the extreme food poisoning in Africa, the intestinal parasites in India, the pit toilets and bucket showers in jungles while dodging killer snakes. So am I lucky? I certainly believe so! But others might just consider me a bit crazy.
