Jode Gannon(I)

He was born in Sydney, Australia in 1990 and moved to Woodford, Queensland at age 12. He was raised in a musical family with his father Tony Gannon, lead guitarist of English punk band Pakov Liez whom toured with such bands as UK Subs, Angelic Upstarts, Urban Dogs, Knox from the Vibrators and Eddy and the Hot Rods, just to name a few. Jode was exposed to early jazz, punk and classic rock by his parents as a baby and could strum a guitar before he could walk.
Gannon attended Matraville Soldiers Settlement joining the school band in primary school and played percussion, leading to his father buying him a second hand drum kit. Later on, at age 10, Jode left the school band to take up guitar after his father had taught him how to play Wild thing. In primary school, Jode was quite a miss behaved student which lead him to never being picked for any of the advanced guitar classes. Jode's guitar teachers would usually make fun of Jode and always underestimated his natural guitar talent with one teacher telling him that he would never make it as a musician. After the passing of his Grandfather, Jodes mother decided to take him and younger sister Nara Katee Gannon to Woodford, Qld, a small rural town, an hours drive north west of Brisbane. At age 13, Jode had just started high school, attending Woodford State School where his music teacher, Mr Thorpe took a great interest in Jode after he started playing David Bowie's Rebel Rebel on guitar in his first music lesson. A few months later, Jode wrote his first song and sang and played guitar at a school assembly to his teachers and peers. Later that year, music Teacher, Mr Thorpe retired from teaching at the school and a new music teacher, Mr Hart was brought in. Jode and Mr Hart didn't see eye to eye from the start, leading Jode to be sent to detention quite a lot. On the last day of year 10, Jode was expelled from school after throwing a water bomb at the crutch of his music teacher, Mr hart. After year 10, Jode attended Tullawong State High School in the Morton Bay Area for year 11, but was only there a few months and then moved to Kilcoy State High School to be closer to his friends again.
After School in 2007, Jode left home to go and live in Brisbane after being accepted into JMC Academy for music. After two years at JMC Academy, Jode decided to stay in Brisbane after meeting his first girlfriend. By 2011, Gannon had started to play live gigs around Brisbane, even playing small festivals just north of Brisbane.
After breaking up with his first girlfriend, Jode decided to pack his car and move back to Sydney, Australia. Jode met up with an old friend from Woodford who had moved to Sydney. After things went down hill, Jode found himself and his friend living out of their car for a two week period until they were approved to move into a house. When asked what it was liked living out of his car Jode said "All I really remember is having to share my backseat with my acoustic guitar on one side and my electric guitar on the other side. It was definitely not a highlight of my life. but that's what you gotta do for rock n roll!"
Jode claims that his biggest kick came from performing at his home towns local open mic nights, "Jammit". Gannon was contacted by his former Woodford State School teacher, ironically, also his detention teacher, Sue Jones, whom asked him to come and have a go.
After playing at the open mic nights, Jode was asked by his former high school, Woodford State, to be a guest speaker and performer, of which he gladly accepted. When asked about being a special guest that night, Jode said "I find it quite funny that they want me to be a special guest, all I ever did at that school was get suspended or be put in the RTR which like a detention room."
During that time, Jode had been offered to write the score on a big budget feature film, but unfortunately that fell through due to financial reasons.
Gannon gets regular airplay around the United States and UK and was recently named in the top 10 best Indie Artist in Sydney, Australia.
Jode has also worked with Hollywood director, Darwin Brooks (Prince of Persia, Alexander, Australia), filming a music video in Surfers Paradise under his direction.
