  • The passion for Japanese film, especially the works of Takeshi Kitano, motivated Alex, at the age of 18, to move to Tokyo alone for two years with the dream of becoming a director and shooting a Japanese film in Japan. After studying at the University of Cologne, Alex started working in film production in 2013.

    In 2013, he graduated from the Screenwriters and Directors program at UCLA, under the guidance of his mentor Prof. A.P Gonzales in Los Angeles. He wrote his first screenplay for "HEY" in 2015 and directed his debut film. His debut film "HEY" won "Best Feature Film" as well as "Audience Favorite" at the Moondance Int. Film Festival in CO, USA in 2016. It was acquired by HBO Europe, among others, and was distributed internationally in over 15 countries.

    Alex Jovanoski has been a guest lecturer at the American University in Washington D.C. in April 2017.

    Since 2020 he is an Expert for the European Union at the Creative Europe Film Funding Program.

    His latest daring short, "Robert and the Imp" which sheds a light on mental health had a fantastic festival circuit, starting with a premiere at the "Hollywood Shortfest" in the "Official Selection" in Los Angeles 2024, now a "Semi-Finalist" at the "New York Indie Shorts Awards 2024" competing at more international film festivals globally (Mirades Fest, Spain, Aimaff ("Honorable Mention) and more.

    Alex Jovanoski is the author and director of seven feature films, three of which are in German, three in English and one in Japanese.
