He graduated high school in Bonifay, Florida, and served in the US Navy during the Vietnam War. From the Navy, he was off to Hollywood, California, where he began work in the music, film, and publishing businesses. From Hollywood, he was on to New York City, Memphis, Nashville, and back to Los Angeles.
