Biography

Lian Morrison is an award-winning filmmaker known for her documentary-driven storytelling and ability to capture deeply human narratives. She holds a diploma in Filmmaking from the Prague Film School and a Bachelor of Arts from Memorial University of Newfoundland. Over the past 12 years, Lian has built a diverse and impactful body of work, taking on roles as director, cinematographer, editor, and producer across a wide range of documentary and television projects.

Throughout her career, Lian has directed numerous pieces, including two award-winning documentaries, Flight of the Fisherman (2016) and Behind Banana Vacuum (2019). Her first television documentary, Set in Motion (2021), aired on CBC. She also shot, directed, and edited six short documentaries for CBC's Creator Network, and directed and edited the first-and only-Newfoundland episode of the Canadian Screen Award-winning digital series Canada's a Drag (2018). In 2025, Lian co-directed and co-wrote Lauda, a documentary about a neurodiverse-led choir in St. John's, Newfoundland, and produced the short film Oranges.

Lian has also recently worked in television and feature film as a Digital Imaging Technician (DIT) in the camera department. Some of her recent credits include Son of a Critch, Astrid and Lilly Save the World, SurrealEstate and The Missus Downstairs.
