Andrew Deffley experienced both the wrath, and then the adoration of Philadelphia sports fans in a single night in an event that led to him being named Jayson Stark's April 2003 "Batboy of the Month" on ESPN.com (over Kenny Mayne of SportsCenter (1979) fame). While serving as a visiting bat boy for the Philadelphia Phillies (but wearing a Colorado Rockies uniform), he was booed for playfully faking a foul ball toss to the fans in the stands. But he later earned a standing ovation and curtain call, tipping his Rockies cap to the Veterans Stadium crowd and taking a bow after successfully giving foul balls to the Philly faithful as a peace offering.
