Virinderpaul Singh

Biography

Virinderpaul Singh

Biography

  • Virinder's desire to tell culturally rich and diverse experiences stem from his experiences of living in different parts of Canada and starting his primary education in a Cambridge boarding school in India. Being able to marry South Asian content with Western sensibilities has been the driving force of what his production company produces and the stories Virinder gravitates towards. Having produced two feature length broadcast documentaries on Punjabi sub-culture and over 30 Short films, he has been able to travel around the world with these films at international festivals.

In the past few years he has focused on lending his expertise as a production manager on IPF produced web-series, "Get up Aisha", and Telus' Storyhive production "It's My Anxiety."

Virinder has been in the media industry for well over a decade. Earlier on his career in unscripted television with Shaw Communications and Rogers Television (OMNI TV) he honed his skills producing documentaries and talk shows. This culminated with assisting the now Oscar nominated documentarian Nisha Pahuja on her award-winning film, "The World Before Her." Leveraging those learnings and skillsets, he pivoted into scripted television and narrative films.

He has been a member of the Directors Guild of Canada since 2016, in varying capacities from accounting, locations and production. He has worked on established shows and studios including Disney (Spin), Paramount (Rabbit Hole), Netflix (Anne with an E), CBC (Kim's Convenience) and Amazon (The Expanse).

In his capacity as an Equity, Diversity and Inclusion consultant, he sits on the board of the Hamilton Theatre and Dance organization and presides over the South Asian Canadian Film Federation. He has fostered training for 25 female filmmakers in the creators of color program along with development and mentoring programming for over 75 Black filmmakers under the Caribbeantales organization (CTBISAP, CCI initiatives.)

His passion to produce genre related films (Horror/Sci-fi) has seen him cover the Fantasia film festival as a press member and a regular attendee at Toronto after Dark and the Blood and Snow festivals. He was part of the Sri-Lankan/Canadian film The Protector filmed up in north Ontario in Sault. Ste Marie which premiered at Fantasia Film Festival in 2022. In preparation for filming his most recent cerebral horror film, he took a course called fear on film at Sheridan college from horror aficionado Chris Alexander (former editor of Fangoria.)

Virinder Singh's latest foray as a creative producer was in developing Jersey Boy, a feature film which won the Whistler pitch competition and is in post-production. Versatile Pictures has a slate of IP's that he is developing including a Sci-fi children's television show. He is hopeful of bringing to life an immigrant story set in 1980's Edmonton - which touches on his family's experiences adapting to Canada.
