- His mother Amelia Traynor (27 May 1888-1989), a pianist and soubrette, appeared alongside Charles Chaplin.
- His maternal grandfather, Tom Traynor (1859-1892), was a singer and a comedian in the double acts Wheatley & Traynor (with Horace Wheatley), Collins & Clough, and O'Gorman & Clough.
- His great uncle and aunt (1879-?), were magic lantern singing duo Fox & Melville.
- His son, Tim Raffles, was also a magician.
