Canadian resident born in the United States. John Austin Ethridge is a writer and director based in Vancouver, British Columbia. A cine-phile and self proclaimed "film nerd foremost". Ethridge found a passion for film from as early as 11 years old. He would use the family DV camera to shoot, and get friends, family and neighbors to act. It was his high school years living in Las Vegas, Nevada where he discovered the films that would inspire and influence his work. "It gets really hot there. So hot you can't really go outside. We had a small DVD store just around the corner, somehow still in business after all the other ones fell. I would find these rare films and spend the summer hours watching non-stop".

Ethridge comes from a diverse family. His mother half African American and his step-father half Mexican American. Also a very artistic family.
