Utkarsh Thukral

Utkarsh Thukral is a bold filmmaker from New Delhi, India, and the voice behind the "Neo-Realistic Weird Wave" movement in Indian cinema. His films blur realism and surrealism, questioning conservative norms with sharp wit and emotional depth. A London Film School graduate, Utkarsh began with MTV-aired music videos and gained early acclaim for shorts like Pendulum and Hey, Do You Mind It?. He later founded Swastika Films, directing TVCs and government campaigns for Swachh Bharat, Odd-Even, and top brands. His film Death by Condom earned global awards and OTT recognition. His recent hit Jhumri Talayian won Best Short Comedy at Kanazawa Film Fest 2024. Utkarsh blends fiction, documentary, and animation, placing narrative and emotion at the center of brand films. His storytelling pushes the edge of Indian indie cinema.
