Atirath started his professional career as a print journalist in 1991 before shifting to TV in 1999. He worked for CBC, Al Jazeera and CGTN. His team at Al Jazeera won the "Most Innovative Program" award at the 2012 Royal Television Society for The Stream. His team was also nominated for an Emmy.
