Biography

Virginia Gherardini

Mini bio

  • Virginia Gherardini is an actress from Rome, Italy. At the age of seventeen, she had the chance to work in both stage and film productions in Victoria B.C. (Canada), playing different roles ranging from comedy to drama. Back to Italy, she studied with Cristiano Censi (Alfredo Angeli's Languidi baci... perfide carezze (1976) ) and Isabella Del Bianco (Umberto Eco's Interviste Impossibili); then she was invited to be part of the theatre company Né Nuvole Né Orologi, whose artistic director Valentino Villa (Alessandro Fabrizi's La voce naturale - Giving Voice (2008) ) wanted her in numerous plays, such as Neil Simon's "Rumors" and Harold Pinter's "Partytime". Her passion for acting brought her to New York, where she had the chance to personally study with Susan Batson (Nicole Kidman and Juliette Binoche's acting coach). She was immediately cast in several independent film productions. The encounter with Jordan Bayne (director of award winner The Sea Is All I Know (2011) starring Academy Award winner Melissa Leo ) has been decisive for her: she followed her work for weeks and not only did she improve her acting skills but especially she learned how to take care of all the stages of a film production. In Italy Virginia graduated with honors at Tor Vergata University in Performing Arts, writing a thesis on Monica Vitti in Michelangelo Antonioni's films. She was then cast by award winner director Pupi Avati (Giovanna's Father (2008) ) for a small role in Un matrimonio (2013). She also played the supporting role in Giulio Mastromauro's Carlo e Clara (2013) alongside two great actors of Italian film history Angela Goodwin (Paolo Sorrentino's The Consequences of Love (2004) ) and Franco Giacobini (Federico Fellini's La Dolce Vita (1960) ). Franco Giacobini, after shooting a scene with her, said about Virginia: "She is truer than truth". Carlo e Clara (2013) received a Special Mention at Premi David di Donatello. In 2015 she is part of Nuvola (2015) directed once again by Giulio Mastromauro'.
