Ted Cruz is the son of Eleanor Darragh (born Wilmington, Delaware of Irish and Italian descent; her name appears as Eleanor Elizabeth Wilson on her son's birth certificate) and of pastor Rafael Cruz (born Matanzas, Cuba, of partial Spanish descent) , who moved to the United States in 1957.

United States Senator from Texas (Republican) from January 3, 2013 until the present. He was a 2016 Republican presidential candidate. He won 11 primaries before suspending his campaign on May 3, 2016, making him the second-to-last candidate to withdraw from the Republican race.

In the late 1980s, Cruz was a freshman roommate of screenwriter Craig Mazin at Princeton University.

[on the candidates running in the November 2022 midterm election] I wish Trump was spending some of his money. Trump's got a hundred million dollars and he's spending almost none of it to support these candidates. That is not ideal. When Mitch McConnell only spends for the moderates or the anti-trump candidates, it would be nice if Trump would spend some of that hundred million dollars to help some of these candidates who Mitch is abandoning because they're pro-Trump. Those are the two pockets of money that are there and right now, neither of them are spending in a number of these states
