Mini bio

  • Bonnie Efird is a Los Angeles-based actress, improviser, producer, writer and director originally from Charlotte, NC. Most recently, Bonnie wrote, directed, and starred in her short film That’s My Girl, set to premiere in early 2026. In the film she plays Brooke, a woman in her mid-30s who confesses to her best friend that she’s in love with her while navigating grief in the aftermath of her father’s death. Bonnie is also known for her role in the mockumentary comedy TV pilot The Gentle Art, portraying Dr. McKenzie Miller, a sarcastic yet deeply likable fresh-out-of-med-school anesthesiologist. She has appeared in a wide range of films, television projects, short films, sketches, web series, improv shows, theater, and musical theater productions, and rose through the comedy ranks at both Upright Citizens Brigade LA and The Groundlings. Her acting training includes study with Anthony Meindl, Craig Wallace, Howard Fine, and Margie Haber. Bonnie performs on multiple improv teams at venues across Los Angeles and was hand selected by improv greats Jim Woods and Will Hines to perform on the improv house team Tub at World’s Greatest Improv Space, a spin-off of UCB LA. She is also a member of the all-women’s indie improv team The Craft, which has been selected to perform at the Edinburgh International Improv Festival in March 2026. Bonnie also performs solo and sketch-based character work and is known for her recurring character "Fun Mom," inspired by her own real-life, over-the-top, chardonnay-loving mother. She is currently developing a one-woman show based on her characters set to debut in 2026. Bonnie is currently in pre-production and in the fundraising phase for a female-forward ensemble comedy pilot based on her mother’s wild Southern fifty-something friend group, The S.L.U.T.S. (Southern Ladies Under Tremendous Stress), who continually challenge the status quo of Southern high society. The project is slated to film in mid to late 2026. In addition to performing, Bonnie has worked behind the camera as a writer, director, producer, 1st AD, 2nd AD, script supervisor, and unit production manager on numerous independent features and short films, including Tane McClure’s horror film Séance Games: Metaxu, now available via Gravitas Ventures on Apple TV and Amazon, as well as McClure’s sci-fi film Voyager 2150, which has won over 30 awards on the film festival circuit. Bonnie is a National Dressage Champion (read: experienced equestrian) and a trained singer (alto belter) with a rich musical theater background. She holds a B.A. in Journalism from Elon University and an M.A. in Strategic Communications from Pepperdine University.
