Lara Cross(I)

Lara Cross is a sound recordist, audio post engineer, and co-director of boutique audio studio Villain Sound. She came up with a film and drama background and spent a good while figuring out where she fit in a production. Starting with teaching ESL and Drama to learn the language of children’s entertainment, she eventually landed in sound like she was always supposed to be there.

She works across the full audio pipeline, from location sound through to post, which means she thinks about the whole picture rather than just her slice of it. On set she’s calm, fast, and quietly obsessive about getting it right, and the kind of person directors and producers tend to keep calling back.

Her degrees in both fashion and drama turned out to be an unexpected superpower: mic placement and concealment is a dark art form, and in a world where body mics are doing more and more of the heavy lifting, that obsessive attention to detail really counts. She also rolls with a trusted crew of boom ops and collaborators, so you’re not just getting Lara, you’re getting a whole team that already knows how to work together.
