- Australian actor Matthew Backer has been described as "wondrously chameleonic" (Sydney Morning Herald), "one of our most compelling performers" (Time Out), and "remarkable" (The Guardian), with his career spanning television, film, theatre, and presenting.
The award-winning Backer (including Sydney Theatre and Broadway World Awards) has starred in TV series such as Good Cop/Bad Cop, Wellmania, Prosper, Neighbours, Five Bedrooms, and The Twelve, has performed with many of Australia's major theatre companies including Sydney Theatre Company and Bell Shakespeare, and has starred in musicals like Jersey Boys, in which he played Frankie Valli.
His debut screenplay and producing effort, the short film Die Bully Die, has screened at more than 25 film festivals around the world and has won Best Live Action Australian Short at the 2024 Sydney Film Festival and Best Screenplay awards at the Mardi Gras Film Festival and Stellar Film Festival.
Backer has studied improv at UCB in New York and Second City in Los Angeles, and is a current host on Australia's iconic children's television show, Play School.

- Matthew was a journalist before becoming an actor, graduating with a Bachelor of Journalism Degree from the University of Queensland in 2005 and completing his cadetship on country newspaper The Fraser Coast Chronicle in 2006.
