Sidy Diop was born in Dakar, Senegal, and grew up in New York City. At the age of 18, he began his journey in the Bronx, where his curiosity, determination, and ambition led him to explore different paths in fashion and entertainment.
He began working as a salesman in some of New York’s renowned Soho stores before entering the modeling industry. A few years later, he turned his attention to acting and trained at the Weist-Barron Studios in New York, studying with respected acting coaches including David Shuman and Batt Johnson.
Following several years of training, Diop moved to Rome, Italy, where he established himself as a professional actor in theater, film, and television. He began his theatrical career with the Lavia Company in William Shakespeare’s "Measure for Measure," directed by Gabriele Lavia, portraying Bernardino.
He made his feature-film debut in Carlo Vanzina’s "La vita e una cosa meravigliosa," portraying Dada, the butler of Gigi Proietti’s character. He subsequently worked with acclaimed Italian directors including Carlo and Enrico Vanzina, Leonardo Pieraccioni, Alessandro Piva, Stefano Sollima, Neri Parenti, and the Manetti Bros.
On television, Diop is known for his role as Tokumbo in "Gomorrah - The Series," directed by Stefano Sollima and other members of the series’ directing team.
His film credits include "Io & Marilyn," "Henry," "Fuori Mira," "Ma tu di che segno 6?," "Go Home - A casa loro," "Cosa fai a Capodanno?," "Holidays on Mars," "La mia ombra e tua," and "The Ritual Killer," in which he portrayed Bembe alongside Morgan Freeman and Cole Hauser.
More recently, Diop appears in Anna Di Francisca’s "La bolla delle acque matte" (2026), portraying Ibri. The Italian-Slovenian production premiered at the Bellaria Film Festival and features an ensemble cast including Fausto Russo Alesi, Lucia Vasini, Jaele Fo, and Sidy Diop.
