- Roland Ratzenberger was born on July 4, 1960 in Salzburg, Austria. He died on April 30, 1994 in Imola, Emilia-Romagna, Italy.
- Died the day before Ayrton Senna was killed on the same track, and when track officials examined the wreckage of Senna's racing car, they found a furled Austrian flag. Senna had planned to raise it after the race, in honour of Ratzenberger.
- Was killed during qualifying for the 1994 Formula 1 race at Imola, when the front wing of his car broke off, resulting in him loosing control of the car and hitting the barrier at over 300 kph.
- Then FIA president, Max Mosley, attended the funeral of Ratzenberger, despite the overwhelming attention on Senna's funeral, both in the world of motorsport and worldwide. In a press conference ten years later Mosley said, "Roland had been forgotten. So I went to his funeral because everyone went to Senna's. I thought it was important that somebody went to his.".
