Biography

Inspired to become a professional filmmaker after watching Christopher Nolan's "Batman Begins", critically acclaimed writer-director Andrew de Burgh started writing, producing and directing short films whilst studying Film at Pepperdine University in Malibu, California. In 2015, he made his professional debut with the psychological thriller short film "Just One Drink" which starred scream queen Barbara Nedeljakova ("Hostel"). It premiered at the 2015 Chinese American Film Festival, scored a 100% critic score on Rotten Tomatoes and was distributed as an Editor's Pick by ShortsTV, the distributor behind each year's Academy Award Nominated Short Films.

In 2017, he wrote, produced and directed the short silent film "The Twisted Doll" which premiered at the Polish Film Festival Los Angeles and screened at over fifteen international film festivals. In the same year, he wrote and directed the virtual reality horror short film "Queen of Hearts" starring Christina Calph ("Tower Heist").

In 2019, after founding the production company Sacred Ember Films, de Burgh made his feature filmmaking debut with the sci-fi drama "The Bestowal" which starred Sharmita Bhattacharya ("Grey's Anatomy"). The film scored a 75% critic score on Rotten Tomatoes and won awards at film festivals worldwide, including Best Director at the Lake City International Film Festival, Best Actress at the Los Angeles IFS Film Festival and Best Screenplay at the Love International Film Festival. In November 2019, it was released by Indie Rights on Prime Video, Tubi, Google Play and YouTube Movies. In 2021, he co-produced and directed the animated Christmas short film "The Legend of Santa", which received universal praise from film critics and qualified for a BAFTA through the film festival DokuFest. It was released on the short film app Sofy.tv by Mbur Films.

Season One of his debut TV Series as creator, writer and director, the psychological thriller "The Twisted Doll" (2024-2025) was released on October 31st, 2024 on Cpics and ZEE5, where it trended at number 1. Executive produced by Kavi Raz ("The Black Prince"), the show stars Summer Singh and Felix Merback ("National Lampoon's Alpha Academy") in the lead roles, as well as Andrew Ghai ("Matlock"), Bree Mignano (Netflix's "Pulse"), Xander Bailey ("Misfortune"), Chelsea Gilson ("Hawaii Five-0") and Will Roberts (General George C. Marshall in "Oppenheimer").

In 2024, he wrote, produced and directed his second feature film as writer-director, the horror-thriller "The Seductress from Hell". It starred Rocio Scotto (Blumhouse's "AfrAId") in the title role, as well as Jason Faunt ("Power Rangers"), James Hyde ("Netflix's Monarca") and Andy Lauer ("Screamers"). It featured sound design by Steve Campagna ("Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker"), special effects makeup by Brittany Jamison-Lackey ("Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania") and art direction by Anna Giudice ("Interstellar"). It had it's World Premiere at the 2024 Glendale International Film Festival and it's Los Angeles Premiere at the 2024 Micheaux Film Festival, where de Burgh was nominated for Outstanding Directing for a Feature.

In Spring 2025, his Claymation Christmas short film "The Magic of Santa Claus" screened at the Dhaka International Film Festival and the Oneota Film Festival. His third feature film, the horror comedy "The Demoness", which stars Akihiro Kitamura, Riley Nottingham, Bella Glanville, Sydney Culbertson, Mark Pontarelli, Haruka Igarashi and Amelia Gotham, was released on Prime Video on January 5th, 2026. It tells the tale of a demonic succubus who visits Earth to torment the human race. Norman Gidney of HorrorBuzz gave it a 6 out of 10, writing "The shots are nicely composed and even have some creative flair. The pace could be better and the dialogue could be polished but The Demoness is at least fun". Douglas Davidson of Elements of Madness compared it to the "Terrifier" series, stating "In an era of Art the Clown, where violence can occur for the sake of it, sometimes mayhem can scratch an itch something more cerebral can't satisfy". Lúcio Reis Filho of Film Obsessive praised the film, writing "de Burgh’s The Demoness is a refreshing, provocative piece in the landscape of contemporary horror cinema. Although at first glance it may pass for a mere ‘blast from the past’, the film goes much further, presenting a critical approach and a distinctly modern visual aesthetic". In his review of the film, Don Anelli of Asian Movie Pulse wrote "The film’s true strength lies in its unapologetic energy. There is a palpable sense of glee in the Succubus’ execution of her victims". Film Threat critic Bobby LePire gave it a 7 out of 10, writing that the film "offers up a fun, twisted time with solid effects and good acting".
