Duane Frey is an independent filmmaker based in Sudbury, ON. With a diverse and well-rounded background in the DIY and genre film industry, Duane has worn many hats, including director, producer, actor, writer, special effects artist, and editor. He is the founding member and Co-Director/Producer of Bad Radical Films.
Duane's approach to storytelling is instinctive and unconventional, driven by a natural ability to see visuals first, almost like fragments of a dream, and then build those images into compelling stories. For him, filmmaking begins with raw, striking visuals that evoke emotion, and from there, the narrative takes shape. This unique process allows him to transform even the simplest ideas into immersive, cinematic experiences that resonate with audiences.
His notable works include The Demolisher (2016), which premiered at acclaimed festivals such as Fantasia International Film Festival, SITGES International Film Festival, Vancouver International Film Festival, LUND Fantastik Film Festival, Toronto After Dark Film Festival, Feratum International Film Festival, HARD:LINE Film Festival, DEDfest, and Fantasy Planet Film Festival. Other projects include Le Morte del Gatto (2015), a bumper video featured during Fantasia Film Festival in Montreal; Haresapien (2012), which won Best Makeup at the 48-Hour Film Festival in Hamilton, ON; Ghostterminator (2011), the 1st place winner of Ed Video's Halloween Competition in Guelph, ON; and Undead Revenge (2010), a Top 10 selection in Jason Eisner's Fake Trailer International Competition.
