David Bertran is a Catalan screenwriter and award-winning film director based out of Barcelona and Los Angeles.
He has been selected at the Cannes Short Film Corner twice and his five last short films have consistently received accolades worldwide. Coming to Terms won 3rd Prize, among 2,542 films, at the Spanish Academy Awards Goya®-qualifier festival of Torrelavega, Spain. Altogether, Coming to Terms has won 45 Awards and has been officially selected in 103 film festivals, four of which are Spanish Academy Awards Goya®-qualifiers.
Having studied and worked in the United States for a long time, David's style is a mix between his European sensibilities, with social and philosophical themes, and a dynamic visual execution, closer to American standards.
He relies on story to convey a strong message and stir up conversation on important topics, such as religion or a child's education, in the case of his short film Coming to Terms.
David's directing style revolves around the world-renowned Travis Technique, as taught by Mark W. Travis himself, which focuses on directing characters (not actors), in order to create authentic, organic performances that are deeply felt by audiences.
David is in the development stage of two screenplays that ought to become his first feature films; a thriller about the addictions that control us and a family drama based in his native Catalonia.
Occasionally, David takes on Producing work, noting his last two projects: Thirty Minutes, directed by Claire Elizabeth Terry, with Lucia Moniz (Love, Actually) and Luca Peros (Netflix's Money Heist), and Imposible decirte adiós, directed by Yolanda Centeno, with Spanish Academy Awards Goya® winners, Fele Martinez and Ruth Gabriel.
He holds an MFA in Filmmaking, a Dual Degree MBA / Master of Intl. Management, from Case Western Reserve University and Thunderbird, respectively, and a Bachelor's Degree in Pharmacy. Still an avid tennis player, David has also completed two NYC marathons and two NYC triathlons. He is a fast typer, never misses a F.C. Barcelona game, and fluently speaks three languages.
