Ergys Meta

Ergys Meta is known for the retrieval of neo-noir sub-genres in Albania. Born in Shkodër in 1985 July 5th. Since the early age, he had an influence from his father as a fan of Spaghetti Western and Spaghetti Noir movies. His two favorite directors of childhood were Sergio Leone and Fernando di Leo. The great influence of pulp literature he took from his favorite authors such as: Georges Simenon, Mikey Spillane, Jim Thomson, Dashiell Hammett, Raymond Chandler, from where evolved his vision for the dark genre. A more profound philosophic approach with anti-hero he took from Dostoevsky, mentioning his main influences as "Notes from Underground" and "Crime and Punishment". During his teenage years, his passions were extended to music as well. At the age of 15th he took his first piano lessons. In the transitional period in his birth town, Ergys started to compose for the local artists. At the age of 18th he builds his first left handed guitar and went to Italy. In Bologna he continued the studies per Cinematography Critic at the University of Bologna, Faculty of Lettere e Filosofia corso DAMS cinema mediologico, in the same time continued his passion for guitar as autodidact. During the years of the University he became acquainted with all the world cinema history, there he decided to develop his style as a filmmaker. In 2004 together with his older brother and his friend, they were engaged to create their band, where Ergys beside the guitar player, was a songwriter and composer of the major songs on their repertory. The band "Permit of Stay" had an impact both in Italy and the Rock life of Tirana. In 2007 was finally returned to Tirana, where besides the commitments for music he started the University of Arts, as the only chance to become a director in Albanian Cinematography. In Bologna in 2003 independently tried to direct his first short film (Ciak Movie) where he will introduce all his cinematic influences. This was his first noir experiment. In the same year, he came back to his birth town to direct on the villages the documentary regarding to cannabis of the north of Albania (Green Traffic). Ergys during the Academy years had a recognition and appreciation from the cinematic community in Tirana, where immediately after finishing the academy won three projects at the Albanian National Center of Cinematography. Dog killers, Me duar në xhepa and One of us which is his first Featuring movie. During his creativity he won four cinematic awards.
