Burak Özdemir is an award-winning composer, conductor, and sound artist. Born in Istanbul and based in Berlin, he works across film, theatre, and performance art.
Özdemir has composed original scores for directors including Karim Aïnouz (Velazquez: Wild Realism, ARTE, 2015), Asli Özge (Life Long, Berlinale Panorama, 2013), Randa Chahoud (Identitti, Razor Film, 2025), and Mark Webber (The Place of No Words, LA Film Festival, 2019).
His music has been presented by institutions such as the Berlin Philharmonie, Elbphilharmonie, Staatsoper Vienna, and Berghain, and released internationally on Sony Music and Deutsche Harmonia Mundi.
A pioneer of the "electro-baroque" genre, Özdemir merges early music aesthetics with contemporary sound design and performance practice. He has collaborated with artists such as Sasha Waltz, Fazil Say, Matthew Herbert, and Rolando Villazón, bridging the worlds of classical, electronic, and interdisciplinary art.
