Biography

Born in Puerto Rico in September 30, 1975, to a Puerto Rican mother and Italian father, Carla was named after the cruise ship where her parents met: Carla C. She developed a passion for art, science and archaeology at an early age, thanks to the books and magazines her grandmother keep at the basement (Salvat Encyclopedia and National Geographic). The discovery of poetry and metaphor arrived at the age of 12, thanks to a poem by Luis Palés Matos. The love for symbolic language saved her from academic failure and guided her path. In University she found photography and theater, and once she graduated, immersed herself in community work and in the creative experience of working with others. The vocation for cinema emerged from all these influences, and from the audiovisual possibilities of its language. She is a lesbian writer, photographer and filmmaker.

As filmmaker, screenwriter, producer, director, and editor she had made various shorts films, documentaries, music videos, educational films and commercials. In 2008 she wrote her Opera Prima Extra Terrestrials; and in October 2016 finalized it in co-production with Venezuela. In November 2016, it was premiered at the Puerto Rico Queer Filmfest where received the Audience Award for Best International Feature Film. In July 2017 had it commercial release in Venezuela, and in Puerto Rico on August 2017. The film has been exhibited in more than 40 international film festivals and has collected different awards.

She also wrote the poetry book Dream Chaser (1993) and the story Ratones (2003) winner of an honorable mention in the 7th Annual Short Story Contest of El Nuevo Día newspaper. From 2013 to 2014 she was a columnist for the virtual magazine 80grados, with 12 chronicles with a diversity themes.
