A New Jersey native, Alex Cap is a media composer with a background as a classical pianist. Past works include short animated family adventure Rocky Roads, VR film From Sea to Rising Sea, Christmas rom-com Holly Star, short drama Silence (official selection of Festival International du Film Panafricain de Cannes), documentary Capoeira in Our Lives, vertical shooter Task Attack (Android/iOS, praised by TouchArcade and AppAdvice), action adventure game Blindsight: War of the Wardens (PC), puzzle game Bloobo (iOS), adventure game That's Not How It Happened (PC/Mac), narrative platformer Social Moth (PC/Mac), and action adventure game Spookulele (PC/Mac).
In July 2016, Cap drove solo cross-country to attend USC's one-year Master of Music in Screen Scoring program at the Thornton School of Music, where he received the Betty Rose Collaboration Award and was selected for a mentorship with James Newton Howard (The Dark Knight, King Kong (2005), Signs). He studied piano under Tomoko Kanamaru at the College of New Jersey where he graduated cum laude with a Bachelor of Music in Piano Performance. In between undergraduate and graduate school, he freelanced as a pianist, composer, and arranger and studied composition with Ken Lampl (Frontera, Kandisha).
