Mini bio

  • Shaun began writing when he was in his teens. He was 15 when he was expelled from public school for an undisclosed incident. Desperate not to have to attend the local secondary modern school (bullies had a reputation for viciously beating up expellees from public school), he attempted to write his first novel. He even persuaded his mother to buy him a typewriter so the work he produced would "look more professional". Sadly, it didn't matter how professional the work he created looked (and for the record, it wasn't that professional in appearance), the story itself was juvenile and was never going to set the literary world alight.

In 1994, at the age of 25, he wrote die Stunde X, an alternative history book that wouldn't get published until 2009. Indeed, it wasn't until 2008 that The Journal, a book he'd written in 2002, was published. The Journal was his first foray into transgressive fiction, inspired by his favourite writer, Chuck Palahniuk ("Fight Club"). The next books that followed - die Stunde X and For the Love of the Devil - were from his back catalogue, novels he'd written prior to The Journal. The irony is, for all of his dislike for the recent phenomenon of Young Adult (YA) fiction, For the Love of the Devil was actually a work of YA fiction. It wasn't until the publication of Blood Money, a book written in a fortnight, that his small group of fans were to see something new. He followed that up with Putrid Underbelly, a book he has described as his "defining moment". After that, he completed Journals, the sequel to The Journal. Peeling the Onion, his latest novel, was published in 2012. After being savagely assaulted at the start of 2013, Shaun lost a lot of work, and had to rebuild the book he was working on, Besotted. That was completed in September of 2013, and will be published in 2014.

He has already begun work on his ninth novel, tentatively titled One Eight. We can't tell you what it's about yet. It's all hush-hush. But we can anticipate that it will be controversial and shocking.

Shaun has also written numerous screenplays for short films, and has dabbled with acting, most notably in "My Mother's Eyes", an adaptation of one of his screenplays.
